Chinoiserie In Teal & Peacock Blue Limited Edition Artwork
HKD$13,965
Description
Louise Hill: For this design I have been very much influenced by the beautiful blues and green colours often found in traditional Asian tea sets, silk brocade fabrics, old jade paintbrushes, temple roof tiles to name a few! Continuing on from the generic Asia theme of my Chinoiserie in Gold & Blush Pinks and Chinoiserie in Aquamarines & Powder Blues. I have included imagery from mainly China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
I spend many months collecting vintage objects and fabrics for my prints and many hours rummaging in markets, second hand shops and scrolling through pages on the internet to find little treasures to include in my artworks.
I like to weave my imagery into intricate layers, creating a kind of luxurious pattern which is contained within a traditional Chinese Lattice window frame. The lattice frame for this design has an intricate electric blue brocade silk as it’s background pattern.
I enjoy photographing little ‘vignettes’ of vintage found objects that complement each other and mix these with embroideries and architectural details of places that I have lived in or travelled to. I especially like the little ‘White Rabbit’ tin box from the milk and vanilla flavoured traditional sweets that originated from Shanghai, where I used to live many years ago - my twin boys used to get given these little sweets from well meaning Shanghainese ‘Aunties’ and neighbours!
