Book: The Mermaid's Purse

"This narrative was born from bedtime story reading to my children, when often the same stories are read with little benefit to the storyteller other than the delight of reading to a child.

In The Mermaid's Purse, I wanted to paint a picture that directly dealt with the issues of habitat threat. The marine environment is n ow becoming a major recipient of our waste and with millions of tonnes of plastic polluting all the great oceans and rivers. We, as human beings, must decide how this planet needs to be policed. From the uncontrolled taking of fish in massive quantities through factory-style net systems, to land reclamation and construction programmes, we need to ensure that our natural habitat stays that way: natural.
